GRACE: It’s Really Amazing!

What is grace? It is God’s unmerited favor, which pursues us and draws us to him. God’s grace, which can’t be earned, nor do we deserve it, shows us our need, and reveals Christ and his work on the cross for us. The same grace gives us the ability to have faith in Christ, and it is his grace that delivers us from sin and brings us into a right relationship with him.

Paul sums it up this way: “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

God’s grace is always a gift freely given to the undeserving. That’s what makes it so amazing. Have you received the gift of salvation that God offers you through His grace?

After we receive God’s saving grace, we soon realize that we continue to be needy and helpless apart from him and therefore, we need God’s sanctifying grace every moment of every day to give us the desire and power to live a life pleasing to the Lord.

Here are a few areas where we continually need God’s amazing grace:

For victory over sin: (“For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under the law, but under grace.” Romans 6:14)

For service: (“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, that always have all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed.” 2 Corinthians 9:8)

For support: (“Let us therefore draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:16)

For suffering: (“My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9)

So, since God’s grace is so essential to the Christian life, how do I obtain it?

James 4:6, 10 gives us the answer. But He gives a greater grace. Therefore, it says, “God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”  Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you. (James 4:6,10)

What are the specific areas that you need grace today? Would you right now humble yourself in his presence and seek his amazing grace?
