WINNING WITH HUMILITY

The election is finally over. We are still recovering from “voter fatigue” and stress, but at least the political ads will stop. Half of our country is rejoicing, including myself, and half is discouraged and depressed.

Whether the election turned out as we hoped or not, we need to remember that God is still sovereign and in complete control. Daniel says: He removes kings and sets up kings (2:21), and God has a good reason for doing both.

Never in my lifetime has America needed hopeful, gracious, and praying Christians more than she does today.

Let’s begin by asking God to give wisdom and success to our leaders along with a humble spirit. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble. Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. (1 Peter 5:5-6 NIV)

No matter what side of this election you landed on, the Lord wants us to treat each other with deference, sensitivity, and kindness. Treat everyone you meet with dignity. Love your spiritual family. Revere God. Respect the government (I Peter 2:17, The Message).

Forty years ago, President Ronald Reagan delivered a radio address to the nation about the upcoming election. In it, he said: “We want to vote for a better America, for a stronger country with our people pulling together; a future of peace, filled with hope and new opportunity, a future where our progress is limited only by our own dreams and determination.”

Would you pray with me?

  1. That there would be a smooth transition of presidential powers and a greater degree of cooperation by all parties in this process.

  2. That God would restore righteousness to our land through the policies that are enacted.

  3. For a greater degree of unity and harmony among the American people.

  4. For the Lord to revive His Church so that our lights would shine bright and make a difference in our country for the sake of Christ (Matthew 5:16).
